How I thought of building an AI mama for your child

This blog is inspired by two of my very personal real-life experiences. I call them goosebumps experience. The universe knows that I am a woman Data Scientist I believe that the universe well planned these two experiences and inspired me to invent an AI Mama for your child.

Experience-1

Phone rings!

Pallawi: Hello, Smriti.

Smriti: Pallawi, can you please take the lift and go to my flat? My 2-year-old baby girl is inside the flat with the nanny. The camera I use to monitor my kid from the office is switched off. Please switch ON the camera so I can see my kid again.

Pallawi: Of course, Smriti. I’ll head to your flat right away and switch on the camera for you.

[Pallawi rushes to Smriti’s flat and turns on the camera]

Pallawi talking to herself: I saw something more that day that the camera could not show Smriti. I saw two things that morning, one the innocent child accompanied by an adult and the second innocent who was alone even in the presence of an adult.

Pallawi was scared to see a child running alone in the home without any of the family members around. Food all over the kid's face and the nanny pulling the child’s hand and running behind the child who will not tell the mother after her office hours about her eating session with the nanny as the kid is just 2 years old.

Pallawi sat there in shock for a couple of minutes looking at the kid constantly and wondering about the life of working women and their kids. What are we women expected to do and is there an end to this expectation and if our loved ones are there to share a few responsibilities of a woman in the year 2020? Today Smriti’s daughter is 5 and she speaks well.

Experience-2

The doorbell rings, the Door opens, and the Door closes!

A kid is full of joy and bursting with such positivity and is happy that her nanny has come.

Nanny who speaks a language not known to parents and is from a nearby local area arrived 10 minutes before Mama was about to leave for the office.

The 3-year-old nonverbal girl child. Just says “Ta Ta” and knows that Mama is going to work now and will return late evening.

Mama did test the camera and Wi-Fi before leaving the home. She is assured that everything is fine.

I was a guest at their home for a couple of days, so there were 3 people in the home after Mama left for the office.

Kid, nanny and me.

I saw that the nanny started the day by doing household chores. The kid was busy watching Cocomelon for hours. The kid can not speak she was dancing, jumping and running happily around the home. Soon after finishing the household chores nanny fed the kid and they both slept for a couple of hours.

After waking up the kid was fed again followed by hours of Cocomelon.

What I saw here was not visible from the camera but I know that me and the Mama knew what was needed for the hour and that was not getting done.

The kid needed human interactions and communication guidance. As the kid can not speak she needed someone who could guide her to express herself.

That is the right time to do it but life and its situations do not support the woman to guard her child. Mama may think let the kid be a kid but the kids grow up fast. No one knows better than a Mama but who knows what mama needs? Unfortuently very few!

My thoughts — Conclusion

Being a nanny or hiring a nanny is not only about feeding, bathing, making hair and watching Cocomelon with your kid. It is about taking care of your kid like her/his kid.

But is this possible? “Taking care of your kid like her/his kid.”

I believe it is possible.
